Product images on this site are loaded directly from Amazon’s servers. This means Amazon receives your IP address when you view a page containing these images, not only when you click a link.

What we collect

The only personal data we ask you for is your email address, and only if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. We do not ask for your name, and we do not require an account to read anything on this site.

If you email us directly, we will also have your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.

How we use it

We use your email address solely to send you the BeforeNextChapter newsletter, roughly once a fortnight, and to reply if you write to us. We never sell, rent or share your email address for anyone else’s marketing.

Our legal basis for sending the newsletter is your consent, which you give when you subscribe and can withdraw at any time.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run this site:

• Kit (formerly ConvertKit) stores newsletter subscribers and delivers our emails. When you subscribe, your email address is sent to and held by Kit on our behalf. Kit is based in the United States and protects transferred data using standard contractual clauses. See Kit’s privacy policy.
• Vercel hosts this website. Like any web host, its servers process technical data such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver pages and keep the service secure.

Cookies and analytics

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Any cookies set while you use this site are strictly necessary for it to work, so no cookie banner is required.

We do not currently use any analytics tools. If that changes, we will update this page before doing so.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, you stop receiving emails immediately, and you can ask us to delete your record entirely.

Your rights

Under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

• Unsubscribe at any time, using the link at the bottom of every newsletter.
• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct it if it is inaccurate.
• Delete it, also known as the right to be forgotten.
• Withdraw consent or object to processing.
• Complain to a data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or the supervisory authority where you live.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the newsletter.
